Starting up Summer!

Hey everyone!

So now that summer is FINALLY in full swing and the weather is finally cooperating, I feel like I can now share with you our theme of Summer that we had in preschool a couple weeks back!  Sit back and relax while reading about our summer-themed week in preschool! :)

On Monday, I began with a fun ice cream activity...where the students had to decide what type of ice cream they liked best.  Their choices were mint, strawberry, chocolate or vanilla.  Since everyone knows teachers don't get paid too much....I didn't have the students taste-test the ice cream, but just had them decide based on their previous experiences.  Then, I had the students paint their own ice cream cone (according to which was their favorite) and then also vote on our poster board to display in the classroom!  Check it out below...can you see which flavor won?! Does it surprise you?! ;)

I Scream, You Scream, ICE CREAM!!! :)

On Tuesday, I let the students make HOMEMADE LEMONADE!!! They LOVED it!!!! :)  It was so simple and easy I just had to have the students do it.
This is the super simple recipe we followed:

1 wedge of lemon
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 cup of water
1 baggy

The only direction for the students to make their lemonade was to squeeze and mix the ingredients together in the baggy!  Then, we as teachers, went around and poured their lemonade into a cup so they could taste-test their OWN homemade lemonade!  The kids LOVED this activity :)  So neat!!!

Just squeeze!!!

Such a creative activity for young kids!
On Wednesday, because we had been having lots of fun voting and taste-testing, I decided to let the students make a 'watermelon' book where they had to draw a certain number of seeds on each page.  Their reward for making and reading their book...(yes, I may have bribed them) was to CHOW DOWN on watermelon!!! Woooohooo! Was I a loved teacher on that day....absolutely!!! :)

On Thursday, we enjoyed a wonderful water day where the kids were able to play in the sprinkler and hit beach balls back and forth to one another.  Water day is a once a week activity now that it is finally summer!

On Friday, we decided to talk about sports that we could play in the summer.  I created a 'sport jersey' template, and then the students were able to decorate their jersey with different sport stamps!  They love using paint and stamps, so this was a perfect summer activity for a Friday!!!  We displayed our sport jerseys out in the hallway for all the parents to see....check it out! :)

Sportin' It Up In The Bear Room
Overall, I am so happy it is finally officially summer and the summer weather is finally here...even though that means applying sunscreen to 28 kids about two or three times a day! :) Oh well!

Well, thank you for listening...and until next time, stay safe! <3
